- Emergency centre. In January 2025 BNT reported, on a tip from the family, that an elderly couple from the village of Gabrene near Petrich had been refused an ambulance: after they called 112, when the husband's blood-pressure monitor showed an upper reading above 220, the Emergency Centre told them to find their own transport. The man was later admitted with an intracerebral haemorrhage. The head of the Petrich Emergency Centre, Dr Aleksandar Popov, said: "No signal was received by us, and in Blagoevgrad apparently none was received either, because a check is being ordered immediately" (our translation).
