Corruption and scandals
- Ten offence notices over the theatre's minibus purchase. The State Financial Inspection Agency (АДФИ) inspected the purchase of a service minibus for the Vratsa Drama and Puppet Theatre (ДКТ-Враца) at the end of 2017. The Ministry of Culture confirmed to Konkurent that ten administrative offence notices were issued for breaches of the Public Procurement Act to director Popdimitrov and to the members of the three-member offers commission (report No ДИ4 ВР-6/23.04.2019). According to the article, the fine under Art. 32 of the Administrative Violations and Penalties Act ranges from 100 to 2000 leva. In its own investigation the paper alleges that "the payment to the minibus supplier left 2 days before it was announced that offers were being collected" (our translation). — Konkurent, 01.09.2019
- Vratsa municipal council sends a report on the theatre to the prosecutor's office. The municipal councillors adopted the report of a temporary inquiry committee created in 2021. The theatre's management had been given a deadline to answer questions about leasing out public municipal property, for which the theatre was not expressly authorised, and about rent income from the exhibition "Produced for you". Popdimitrov turned out to be on leave, and neither he nor his deputy answered in time. The results are therefore to be sent to the Vratsa Regional Prosecutor's Office and the Ministry of Culture. — BNR – Radio Vidin, 12.10.2023
- Rival candidate: denied access to the theatre and to documents. Valentin Giyasbeili, a candidate in the competition for theatre director in which Popdimitrov also took part, complained to Konkurent that the acting director had not let him into the theatre's building or given him its documents on 21 May 2023. Giyasbeili filed a complaint with the Ministry of Culture and requested documents under the Access to Public Information Act. The Ministry replied that the theatre itself is the obliged body. The theatre did not react. Giyasbeili told the paper: "I was denied access to the theatre personally by Popdimitrov, which is a violation" (our translation). — Konkurent, 09.06.2023
- Theatre debts above 2 million leva. Konkurent wrote that "A little over 2,000,000 leva are the debts of the Vratsa theatre at the start of the year" (our translation). According to the paper, most of them accumulated under the management of Popdimitrov, who had led the company for over 25 years. — Konkurent, 13.05.2021
