Communist Party and State Security
- The Gyurov clan of Libyahovo – claims of local party activists. The Gyurov clan of Libyahovo (Ilinden) produced local BKP/БРП(к) activists, according to a text by Zonanews (author Anton Todorov) republished by Pik and other outlets. It relies on the local-history writer Atanas Pancheliev and his book Илинден (1992), and on the genealogy Гюровият род от с. Либяхово in в. Трета възраст (18.01.2025). On these claims, Lazar Gyurov chaired the meeting of the village party organisation of 20.03.1949, and Nikola Gyurov was secretary of the party bureau from 1.10.1944. Pik says: „Дядо Тодор е дядото на Андрей Гюров.“ (our translation: 'Grandfather Todor is Andrey Gyurov's grandfather.') None of them is claimed to have served in State Security, and no rank or pseudonym is given. These are village-level posts, not high office. The author is critical of Gyurov, and the text appeared during the presidential campaign, in which Gyurov is a rival of Radev's camp and of Yotova. Republications by other outlets count as one source. The publications found carry no response from Gyurov and no consequences. — Pik.bg (republishing Zonanews.bg), 30.07.2026
Corruption and scandals
- Anti-corruption commission: incompatibility as BNB deputy governor. By Decision No. РН-КПК-КИ-16-23-18 of 24.06.2024, the anti-corruption commission (КПК) ruled that on taking office on 26.07.2023 Gyurov was a partner in Йонтех Инженеринг ООД (a 2% share, 100 lv of a 5000 lv capital, removed on 23.11.2023). He also sat on the governing bodies of two non-profit organisations, Балкански–Паница Институт and Голф-клуб Благоевград, without the permission of the BNB board. In the commission's view, this made him incompatible with the post. No corruption or personal gain was alleged. The board removed him in 2024 pending a court decision, writes Електронен съдник. Gyurov appealed both acts. The КПК decision was declared null (see next item). The case at the Supreme Administrative Court (ВАС) against the removal decision was suspended and a preliminary reference was sent to the Court of Justice of the EU. His powers ended on 19.02.2026 on his appointment as Prime Minister. — Електронен съдник (e-jure.net), 28.03.2026
- Court on the КПК decision, 12.12.2024. The Sofia Administrative Court (judge Boryana Petkova) declared the commission's decision on Gyurov's incompatibility null. The grounds were procedural, not on the merits: the body had not been constituted as the law requires, and Gyurov had not been notified of the proceedings. The BNB board's decision removing him remains under challenge at the ВАС, which sent a preliminary reference to the Court of Justice of the EU and, according to clubz.bg and bTV (seen as snippets), refused the BNB's request to withdraw the reference or end the case. By the same reports, it held that Gyurov keeps a legal interest even after his BNB powers ended on 19.02.2026. The research found no judgment of the Court of Justice of the EU and no final ВАС ruling. — Radio Free Europe (Свободна Европа), 12.12.2024
- Security agreement with Ukraine, 30.03.2026. As caretaker Prime Minister, Gyurov signed a ten-year security agreement with Ukraine in Kyiv. President Iliana Yotova, Rumen Radev, Krum Zarkov (BSP) and Kostadin Kostadinov (Vazrazhdane) objected that a caretaker PM cannot take on such long-term commitments without a decision of the National Assembly, writes Mediapool.bg; RFE, Сега, bTV and Euronews report the same. Yotova called the signing inadequate because the cabinet's mandate has a limited horizon. The critics are political rivals: Radev's Прогресивна България ran in the elections, and Yotova later became Gyurov's opponent in the presidential race. Gyurov defended the act and said the agreement would not be cancelled. ПП-ДБ defended him. The agreement stayed in place and no legal challenge was found. The Mediapool page could not be verified during the research, so the text is not quoted verbatim. — Mediapool.bg, 31.03.2026 (archived)
