Corruption and scandals

  • Peevski's list of appointments and Vălchev's reply. His political opponent Peevski put him on a list of appointments on which he appears on a supervisory board. Vălchev replies that he won a competition and is not a cashier: "From 24.03.2023 I am a member of the Supervisory Board of ЕСО ЕАД" (our translation). Capital, however, had already reported his appointment in September 2022, so the dates do not match. — Glasove, 3 Aug 2024
  • Capital: a consultancy contract at the Agriculture Fund. Capital links his name to the 2014 scandal at Държавен фонд Земеделие. According to the paper, ДАНС investigated the fund's director Мирослав Николов and his deputy Виолета Александрова over improperly approved EU-funded projects and consultancy contracts, one of which was signed with Vălchev. At the time the media described him as close to Станишев and to MP Светла Бъчварова. No charges against him are reported. The directors were dismissed by the fund's board. Capital says the fight looked like an exchange of blows between BSP and ДПС. — Capital, 21 Sep 2022
  • Allegations of ties to Peevski and the КОЙ model. Симеон Славчев of МИР, a party that had just left the BSP coalition in a dispute over the lists, said: "Andrey Vălchev also has clear ties to the КОЙ model" (our translation). Клуб Z, citing a source in ДПС-ДПС who was in conflict with Vălchev over Киселова's office, writes that he is Peevski's servant. It also cites the alleged closeness of his partner to Peevski. No evidence of the tie is given: there is only the claim of a family friendship and the partner's former link to the Totalizator, led by Peevski's mother. — Club Z, 13 Jun 2025

Other

  • His election to the 51st National Assembly declared unlawful. The ruling is the Constitutional Court's of 13.03.2025, and his seat passed to Иван Клисурски. He said: "Court decisions are not commented on" (our translation). — Utro Ruse (BTA), 13 Mar 2025
  • Chief of cabinet to the National Assembly Speaker. Club Z writes, citing its own sources, that after losing his parliamentary seat Vălchev became chief of cabinet to National Assembly Speaker Киселова from 8.04.2025. The outlet notes: "There is no official information about the appointment." (our translation) — Club Z, 13 Jun 2025
  • Work at the Agriculture Fund and a BSP post. A biographical note to an interview with him in the BSP-affiliated daily Дума states: "He worked at ДФ "Земеделие" from 17.11.2008 to 17.06.2010" (our translation). According to the note, Vălchev is a BSP member and until 2014 was secretary for National Policies in the party's regional leadership (ОБ на МО). In the interview he blames minister Греков. — Duma, 2014
