Corruption and scandals
- Asked for disciplinary proceedings against Sarafov. As Minister of Justice, Andrey Yankulov asked the Supreme Judicial Council (ВСС) to open disciplinary proceedings against acting Chief Prosecutor Borislav Sarafov, novini247.com writes. The Prosecutors' College's refusal is explained partly by expired limitation periods. After leaving office Yankulov publicly accused the college of procedural delay. He also proposed proceedings against prosecutor Emilia Rusinova (over a shared trip with Petyo Evroto) and against judge Dian Vasilev; the outcome of those is not confirmed. The dispute is with Sarafov/the ВСС. Pro-Sarafov outlets (Standart, Blitz/PIK) attacked him as Hristo Ivanov's pupil. — novini247.com, 12.05.2026
- Anti-Corruption Fund and the Petrohan case. In February 2026 an Interior Ministry (МВР) report on the Petrohan case, leaked to several media, said that the Anti-Corruption Fund (АКФ), where Yankulov is a senior legal expert, had sent a 2024 access-to-information request concerning a nature-protection agency. Pro-government and nationalist outlets presented this as pressure on the ministry. Yankulov denies knowing the people involved or drafting the request (this is his and AKF's own account). On Facebook he states that he does not know the people from the association and „никога не е бил техен дарител или гост“ (our translation: has never been their donor or guest), writes Булевард България. No charge or finding against him is reported; the next day he was appointed caretaker Minister of Justice. — Boulevard Bulgaria, 18.02.2026
- Allegations of ties to Hristo Ivanov and Ivo Prokopiev. Outlets that are among the political and media opponents of PP-DB and Capital allege that Yankulov is a protégé of Hristo Ivanov and a close friend of Ivo Prokopiev, funded through America for Bulgaria. Flagman.bg writes that Ivanov „го взема под крилото си още като младши прокурор“ (our translation: took him under his wing back when he was a junior prosecutor) and that Yankulov was a scholar of the foundation. According to Burevestnik (2022, from the camp hostile to Prokopiev) he would head КПКОНПИ, but he did not. No wrongdoing is shown; these are allegations about networks. — Flagman.bg, 21.02.2026
Other
- Practising lawyer. Андрей Иванов Янкулов is listed in the register of the Bulgarian bar (Supreme Bar Council) with the status „Практикуващ“ (our translation: Practising) as of 25.09.2026. — Bulgarian bar registers, 25.09.2026
- Candidate for the ВСС Prosecutors' College. The national council of Democratic Bulgaria gave its MPs a mandate to nominate Yankulov, Tanya Radulovska and Emil Dechev as members of the Supreme Judicial Council (ВСС), Sega writes, citing the press release of the nominating party itself. Yankulov and Dechev were ministers in the Andrey Gyurov caretaker cabinet. An earlier nomination of Yankulov for the Prosecutors' College by 7 NGOs also exists. The former Minister of Justice, nominated as a member of the college, spoke to BNR, ruse.news reports. The selection procedure is pending: according to banker.bg, parliament votes on its quota on 19.11.2026, and a two-thirds majority (160 votes) is required. — ruse.news, 18.10.2026, Sega, 08.09.2026
