Corruption and scandals

  • Remark attributed to him by DB MPs. Ivaylo Mirchev and Ilina Mutafchieva, political opponents of GERB, claim that during the Electoral Code debate in December 2022 he spoke insultingly about the protesters outside parliament against the return of the paper ballot. In their account, quoted by Boulevard Bulgaria, he said: „Outside there are 15 people who are unwashed, gay, drug addicts, imbeciles and here and there a professor“ (our translation). The words were not spoken from the rostrum and there is no recording. The outlet writes that neither GERB nor he reacted; no denial or sanction has been found. — Булевард България, 02.12.2022
  • Anonymous tip to Iustitia. In 2022 the outlet published a letter from a person presenting themselves as an employee, saying a large sum was embezzled from the Gurko car park run by the municipal enterprise Transport in Burgas. Iustitia writes that Runchev is probably the person meant, and offered him a right of reply. No reaction from him and no prosecution or audit are known.
