Corruption and scandals

  • Enters parliament after the candidate who overtook him steps aside. At the June 2024 election Nikolay Yurukov of Devin won 940 preference votes and pushed him out of second place on the DPS list in Smolyan province, then applied not to take up the seat. An unnamed member of the party's regional council told 24rodopi that much of the local membership had not wanted him in that position; according to the site, regional chairman Rumen Pehlivanov, summoned to headquarters, came out for party discipline. Zlatogradski Vestnik writes that this happened on orders from above, to open a place for him although the votes for the Devin candidate had eliminated him. — 24rodopi (24smolian.com), 14.06.2024, Zlatogradski Vestnik, 21.09.2024
  • Claim of an election deal with GERB in Zlatograd. The regional website 24rodopi writes, without naming sources, that he promised Ahmed Dogan the DPS mayoral candidate would reach the run-off, adding: "As a fallback he allows for possible bargaining with one of the two in the run-off if the DPS fails to reach the second round" (our translation). After the first round, according to the outlet, he appeared together with GERB's Miroslav Yanchev in places with DPS voters, and a campaign meeting in Startsevo announced that a Yanchev win would mean a deputy mayor's post for the DPS. — 24rodopi (24smolian.com), 16.09.2023, 24rodopi (rodopi24.blogspot.com), 03.11.2023

Other

  • Expelled from the DPS parliamentary group. He voted against the Zhelyazkov draft cabinet, BNT and Svobodna Evropa report, the latter listing him among those who went against Delyan Peevski's will. The group then expelled him together with co-chairman Dzhevdet Chakarov and others, News.bg reports. — BNT, 03.07.2024, Svobodna Evropa (RFE/RL), 04.07.2024, News.bg, 11.07.2024
  • Expelled from the DPS. The party's Central Council expelled him on 16 November 2024 together with eight others from Smolyan province, among them a sitting MP, mayors and regional chairmen, Marica reports, citing a post by the regional branch of DPS – New Beginning. The grounds given were the party statute; he is a former municipal chairman in Zlatograd. — Marica, 18.11.2024
  • Calls the Supreme Administrative Court ruling a theft of the DPS brand. Speaking as an independent MP close to Ahmed Dogan, he told Actualno.com that it was Delyan Peevski's biggest blow, that the whole country had seen how the captured state works and that the court was completely under control. — Actualno.com, 12.09.2024
