Russia
- Lukoil. In November 2023 Minister of Economy and Industry Bogdanov said in the bTV studio that he did not know whether the billions of Lukoil Neftochim had gone into Putin's pocket. According to News.bg, he said that if Lukoil does not meet its commitment and does not work with non-Russian oil, "the state should take control of Lukoil" (our translation), and he described the derogation as a mechanism the European Commission allowed for a set period. — News.bg, 10.11.2023
Corruption and scandals
- The lawyers. 24 Chasa writes, without naming a source, that as Minister of Economy and Industry Bogdanov concluded four legal-aid contracts with the same law firm with fees "of over BGN 1.7 million" (our translation), while the ministry's legal directorate, with nearly 20 lawyers, was kept out of the cases. No reply from Bogdanov is cited in the accessible part of the article. — 24 Chasa, 09.08.2024
- Gunpowder. In April 2025 Bogdanov, an MP from PP-DB, said on BNT's "Panorama" that as Minister of Economy he had proposed that Bulgaria build its own gunpowder plant and that the project was stopped under pressure from Delyan Peevski: "Then, under pressure from Peevski, DANS withdrew its positive opinion" (our translation). No reply from Peevski is cited. — BNT, 04.04.2025
- Pleven. In August 2025 Bogdanov, an MP from the opposition PP-DB, claimed to RFE/RL about the tender for a sports hall in Pleven: "On just two items, structure and architecture, there is a BGN 8 million mark-up. And the overall corruption rate comes to about BGN 17 million" (our translation). RFE/RL writes that he had filed a complaint with the institutions as early as February, but no check has been made. Arete Stroy, one of the two firms in the winning consortium, replied that its offer was "fully in line" with the specifics of the site and the contracting authority's requirements (our translation). — RFE/RL, 28.08.2025
