Communist Party and State Security
- Secret collaborator KIRIL of the First Main Directorate. The website agentibg.com, which publishes archive cards, describes how, as a student in Milan, he was recruited on 14 February 1973 as a secret collaborator of department 07 Scientific and Technical Intelligence of the First Main Directorate, in Italy during an excursion near Como rather than in Bulgaria as was usual. In the operative's recruitment report, „Боян Киров прие незабавно и безрезервно“ (Boyan Kirov accepted immediately and without reservation, our translation). He was to make contacts among students and lecturers in order to pass on leads and to collect material on ultra-left organisations, as well as information on the university's structure and funding. The cooperation was ended in 1975 on the grounds that he had shown no persistence, interest or creativity. — agentibg.com
- Agent PETROV of the Second Main Directorate. According to the same site, in October 1982, when he worked at the Central Laboratory for Space Research of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences, he was recruited as agent PETROV of department 10 Economic of the Second Main Directorate of State Security. The recruitment report says he chose the pseudonym himself, accepted the offer willingly and was not made to sign a declaration. At the meeting he gave information about negative phenomena there, including ties to American science and neglect of Soviet specialists. A card shows him moved to department 01 of the Fourth Economic Directorate; by the Dossier Commission's information the cooperation ended in 1992. According to agentibg.com, his father was a partisan and one of the leading communist functionaries in Yambol after 9 September 1944, and under BKP rule worked as a full-time employee of the Ministry of National Defence and the Interior Ministry.
