Russia
- Russia. On 08.10.2026 Bozhanov told journalists in parliament: "All indirect indications point to this being an operation of Russian military units" (our translation), referring to the ships hit by drones in the Black Sea. He said that the governing side, Iliana Yotova and Rumen Radev, refuse to mention Russia. — BTA, 08.10.2026
- Starlink. On 14.10.2026 Bozhanov accused Prime Minister Rumen Radev of being afraid to acknowledge Russian hybrid attacks, referring to the burned Starlink antennas: "Why are you afraid to name Russia? Why don't you act like the Polish prime minister Donald Tusk..." (our translation). Radev replied that Bozhanov must own a "crystal ball" and that the investigation is ongoing. — Sega, 14.10.2026
Corruption and scandals
- Immunity. On 28.02.2025 Chief Prosecutor Borislav Sarafov asked parliament to lift the immunity of Bozhidar Bozhanov and Kiril Petkov. The prosecution claims to have evidence that Bozhanov committed an offence in office in connection with a public procurement of nearly 18 million lev announced in spring 2022, when he was Minister of E-Government. Bozhanov called the accusations "absolutely fabricated nonsense" (our translation) and said he would waive his immunity. — Mediapool, 28.02.2025
- The charge. On 27.03.2025 the prosecution charged Bozhidar Bozhanov with an offence in office. According to the Sofia City Prosecutor's Office, as Minister of E-Government in Kiril Petkov's government he breached his official duties in connection with the award of a public procurement for a cybersecurity system. Bozhanov denies any wrongdoing. — RFE/RL Bulgaria, 27.03.2025
- Case sent back. On 28.04.2026 the Sofia City Court terminated the court proceedings and returned the indictment against Bozhanov and Kiril Petkov to the prosecution to fix errors. According to the court, "the construction of the indictment is so complex and hypothetical that it leads to the conclusion that the prosecution is unclear on what Bozhanov is being charged with" (our translation). The ruling was open to a protest by the prosecution. — Club Z, 28.04.2026
- Appeal court. On 24.06.2026 Sega reported that the Sofia Appeal Court had set aside the first-instance ruling and held that "there are no prosecutorial omissions in the indictment against Kiril Petkov and Bozhidar Bozhanov that prevent the case from being heard" (our translation). According to the paper, the trial of the two is to be heard on the merits. — Sega, 24.06.2026
