Corruption and scandals

• Anti-corruption commission check into an apartment on Chataldzha Street. The investigative site BIRD.bg claims that he bought an apartment from СТВ Консълтинг, a former company of Asen Vasilev, and sold it a year later for several times more. BNT reports: "The case is being checked by the Commission for Combating Corruption on the instruction of the Sofia City Prosecutor's Office" (our translation). He and Vasilev deny any violations and announced they would sue BIRD. They were defended by Borisov (GERB) and Peevski (DPS), then coalition partners of PP. • BOETS refers property deals to the prosecution. The association BOETS referred the property deals of Lorer and Asen Vasilev around Chataldzha Street to the prosecution after BIRD.bg published information calling them suspicious, Mediapool reports. — Mediapool.bg, 12.01.2024
• BIRD: a 234 sq m maisonette with a private lift. BIRD.bg, which is in dispute with him and Vasilev, describes in an article republished by Safenews his apartment at 3 Chataldzha Street as a maisonette with a private lift to the underground car park, acquired at a low price and later sold for BGN 1.86 million. • His wife on Asen Vasilev's team. The aggregator corruptionbg.eu, whose owner is unclear, writes that while he was a minister Violeta Lorer was chief of cabinet to the Deputy Prime Minister. An opinion piece by a journalist at Днес+ points out that he led a working group with experts from the State Financial Inspection Agency (АДФИ) while she supervised the same experts. • ITN accusations of conflict of interest in 2021. ITN, a political rival of Lorer, accused him of a conflict of interest. He commented on the accusations in an interview with bTV. No follow-up (prosecution, ruling) has been found. — bTV Novinite, 30.10.2021

• A Supreme Administrative Court ruling against Kostadinov, as he reports it. In his own press release carried by BTA, the MP, who is a party to the case, states that the Supreme Administrative Court confirmed in a final ruling that public statements about him by Kostadin Kostadinov of Vazrazhdane amount to discriminatory harassment under the Protection against Discrimination Act.
