Corruption and scandals

  • Anti-corruption commission opens a conflict-of-interest case. After a Nova TV report, the anti-corruption commission (КПКОНПИ) opened proceedings to establish a conflict of interest against Taskov as former director of the Kavarna municipal hospital. In its announcement the commission stressed that a conflict of interest „is not established by the fact that proceedings were opened“ (our translation). No final decision by the commission or a court in this case has been found. — Flashnews, 1 Mar 2021
  • Nova TV investigation into spending at the Kavarna hospital. A Nova TV investigation of 28 February 2021 alleges that, as director of the Kavarna municipal hospital (2016–2019), Taskov paid a Shumen lawyer about 70,000 leva for a single documented legal service: an instalment agreement with Energo-Pro over a 60,000-leva electricity bill. The broadcaster further alleges that he paid a procurement consultant 6,000 leva plus 2,500 leva for fuel, bought medical clothing worth about 30,000 leva without a tender, and had his personal car repaired at the hospital's expense. The hospital's debts allegedly rose from about 100,000 to over 600,000 leva during his tenure. The report was repeated by Trud. Taskov rejects the accusations. According to Pronewsdobrich, Kavarna municipality commissioned an audit of the director's work and the materials were passed to the prosecutor's office. No indictment or conviction has been found. — Trud, 1 Mar 2021
  • Withdraws his candidacy for the 45th National Assembly elections. In a declaration to the BSP leadership, Taskov withdrew from the list for the 45th National Assembly elections (April 2021), calling the withdrawal the most correct decision in the situation. In it he claims: „I was the person who contributed to the hospital not being closed“ (our translation). His next documented parliamentary activity is in the 51st National Assembly in 2025. — Trud, 1 Mar 2021

Other

  • Appointed hospital director in Kavarna by a BSP mayor. Trud writes: „Brought in as head by the town's mayor – his party colleague Nina Stavreva.“ (our translation) He was director of MBAL Kavarna from 2016 to the end of 2019 and left the hospital to become an MP in the 44th National Assembly (sworn in on 12 November 2019). According to Pronewsdobrich, the staff protested over unpaid wages. — Trud, 1 Mar 2021
