Corruption and scandals
- Convicted on appeal of influence peddling and bribery, 2025. According to the prosecution, in July 2012 Avramov, then a GERB MP, "several times demanded 220,000 leva and the right to use farmland, and accepted the sum of 100,000 leva" from the farmer Svetoslav Ilchovski (our translation); he was arrested in 2012. In 2016 Sofia City Court acquitted him, but in 2017 the Court of Appeal sent the case back. By a verdict of the Sofia Court of Appeal of October 2025 the acquittal was overturned and Avramov was "found guilty of a crime of influence peddling and bribery committed jointly with another person" (our translation). The verdict has been appealed to the Supreme Court of Cassation. Several prosecutors general have asked for his immunity to be lifted; he has waived it.
