Corruption and scandals

  • Final conviction for tax crime. The Supreme Court of Cassation upheld the conviction for tax evasion on a particularly large scale, Actualno reports, quoting the court's act. As manager of a company from Gotse Delchev, he entered invoices for non-existent transactions in the annual tax returns for 2012–2015. In this way he avoided BGN 202,138.18 in VAT and corporate tax. At first instance (28.02.2023) he received 3 years' imprisonment, suspended with a 4-year probation period. He was also ordered to pay the state, represented by the Minister of Finance, damages of the same amount. In July 2024 the Sofia Appellate Court reduced the sentence to 2 years and 6 months with a 3-year probation period. The indictment by the Blagoevgrad Regional Prosecutor's Office, as reported by 24 Chasa, was that he deducted his company's VAT on fictitious deals with shell companies of mentally ill and socially vulnerable people. — Actualno.com, 17.11.2024, 24 Chasa, 21.10.2020
  • Request to lift immunity over a crash that killed a pedestrian. On 27.11.2014 he hit and killed a pedestrian who was crossing the road, driving at about 68 km/h in a built-up area, above the speed limit. This was announced by the Chief Prosecutor's spokesperson Rumyana Arnaudova, News.bg reports. In 2016 the Blagoevgrad Regional Prosecutor's Office sent him to trial. After he acquired parliamentary immunity, the proceedings were stayed. Chief Prosecutor Sotir Tsatsarov asked the National Assembly for permission to lift his immunity so the trial could continue. He announced that he would waive it voluntarily. — News.bg, 20.06.2017
  • Asset forfeiture case brought by the anti-corruption commission. At the request of the anti-corruption and asset forfeiture commission (КПКОНПИ), a case has begun in Blagoevgrad Regional Court against him, his wife Boyanka and the company Боро Травел 99, Alarma.bg writes, citing the newspaper Weekend. The commission seeks to confiscate assets worth BGN 595,000. Before this, an audit had shown a gap between the family's income and its high standard of living: over BGN 150,000 for 2013–2016 alone. The court told the paper that two attachments have been imposed, on a home and on a Hyundai car. — Alarma.bg (from Weekend), 11.12.2022
