Corruption and scandals

• Her husband's bank savings in her asset declaration. According to Marica, her 2022 asset declaration shows that her husband Doncho Katsarev, the former head of the Incinerator, holds BGN 483,800 in the bank, alongside a mortgage and a consumer loan. A later 24chasa piece, whose date could not be confirmed, reports BGN 425,357, which he explained to КПКОНПИ as coming from salary. No sanction, proceedings or finding of unexplained wealth has been reported. — Marica, 13.08.2022
• Her husband Doncho Katsarev – allegations of pay without a built incinerator. In February 2022 lawyer Atanas Boyadzhiev of the association Аз обичам Пловдив, who filed the complaint and is in a dispute with the municipal management, and independent opposition councillors alleged that her husband was the sole employee and head of the non-working municipal company Инсинератор Пловдив. They claimed he drew a salary and payments for services without developing the plant, and rented his mother's sports Audi A6 to the company. The lawyer says he reported this to the Specialised Prosecutor's Office and that Katsarev is under investigation; this comes only from him and is unverified. According to him, about BGN 15 million went into the plant, which is still not operating. No indictment or conviction has been found, and nothing is alleged against her. — MediaCafe, 11.02.2022
• Her husband – released as head of the municipal company. Marica writes that her husband Doncho Katsarev was released from the head's post after the hospital-waste incinerator never started working. He kept a private firm. The municipal company went into liquidation, and the council debated whether to pay his salary with a loan from the budget. — Marica, 13.08.2022
• The deputy-mayor post – a post-election reward, according to Plovdiv Press. Plovdiv Press, a critical local outlet, claims that her 2019 appointment as deputy mayor was a post-election reward: she agreed to leave the GERB list of councillors so that Alexander Dzhurkov could enter and then chair the municipal council. This is the journalist's interpretation, not a documented fact. The same outlet writes: "She is also the wife of the Incinerator head Doncho Katsarev" (our translation).
