Corruption and scandals

  • His company – a hospital supplier. Mediamall describes him as sole owner and manager of Prohelt EOOD – among the main suppliers of medical devices and consumables to healthcare facilities under public procurement: "This is how Kukov's firm obtained in 2016 a lucrative contract for nearly 580 thousand leva" (our translation) – with Lozenets hospital, known as the government hospital. The same year brought a deal with Sveta Anna, 2017 one with Second MBAL Sofia and 2018 one with MBAL Sveta Marina; by the site's count the first three alone brought in close to two million leva. The outlet cites unnamed people in the trade who say these arrangements were possible only through protection from the highest levels of power. Filter writes of 217 million leva in supplies over the previous 20 years, without stating the basis of the figure. — Mediamall, 25 Jun 2024, Filter, 29 Jun 2024
  • Request for an ad hoc committee on Ivelin Mihaylov. He tabled draft decision No. 50-454-02-11: to examine reports of crimes connected with the activities of Velichie's ideologue and the Historical Park complex in Neofit Rilski, including money laundering and ties between local and central government and the park. — National Assembly, 9 Jul 2024
  • Velichie demands that he leave parliament. The party's Central Council called on him and six others elected on its list to leave the National Assembly, saying they had broken their campaign promises and were acting against its authority. The declaration was read out by the party chair Albena Pekova at BTA's National Press Club. — Utro Ruse (BTA), 16 Jul 2024
  • A lie-detector test against an accusation by Ivelin Mihaylov. Standart writes that five MPs, among them him, Darin Georgiev and Etien Levi, took a polygraph to refute the party boss's accusation; Viktoria Vasileva gave their names on bTV. The questions included whether they had received benefits to leave Velichie and whether anyone had pressed them to back a GERB mandate. According to the paper, they passed the test emphatically. — Standart, 1 Aug 2024
