Corruption and scandals
- The hospital. BNT reports that MBAL Varna had received no income for over-limit activity in the last six months and that the unpaid over-limit activity for that period exceeds BGN 800,000, which is why the hospital is accumulating debts. The manager, Assoc. Prof. Georgi Iliev, said: "Since July 2025 MBAL Varna has not received the sum earned for the so-called over-limit activity" (our translation). — BNT, 26.01.2026
- Declarations. Mediapool reports that the declarations of 17 Progressive Bulgaria MPs, among them Georgi Iliev, are not published in the National Assembly section of the Audit Office website. After publication the Audit Office clarified that almost all of them had held other public posts and that their declarations are in the corresponding sections of the site. Except for Ivan Vachev and Irina Asimova-Diamant, whose declarations were yet to be published, for the remaining 15 the Audit Office said no new declaration was needed, because they had held their previous posts less than a month before becoming MPs. — Mediapool, 27.08.2026
