Corruption and scandals

  • Customs. In May 2008 the director of the Customs Agency, Asen Asenov, and two of his three deputies, Georgi Grigorov and Aleksandar Rakov, submitted their resignations to the finance minister. According to the agency's website, the reasons given in the applications were the accomplished task of preparing the customs administration for EU membership, over a year of work under full membership, and accumulated fatigue. Chief Prosecutor Boris Velchev said the same day that the prosecution had not kept secret that it was also investigating the customs leadership; as quoted, the statement names no individuals. — news.bg, 28.05.2008
  • Gravis Bulgaria. A publication about Gravis Bulgaria AD (the page does not mention the MP): OFFNews reported, citing the Customs Agency, that "after a public tender, on 13.03.2017 a contract was signed between the Customs Agency and the contractor, Gravis Bulgaria AD" for activity 2 of the BIMIS 2020 project, "with a total value of BGN 4,747,000 excluding VAT" (our translation). According to his biography published by BTA, he is the "founder and executive director of Gravis Bulgaria AD" (our translation). — OFFNews, 29.01.2019, bta.bg
