Russia

  • Meeting with the Russian ambassador on tourist flows. The Ministry of Tourism reported that, as minister, he discussed with Eleonora Mitrofanova faster visa issuance for Russian citizens wishing to holiday in Bulgaria and stronger Bulgarian participation in Russian tourism forums. In his words the ministry would work actively to promote the country to Russians; he said he hoped the government in Moscow would review its restrictions on air services. — Ministry of Tourism, 3 February 2022
  • Talks with Rostourism. The agency's head, Zarina Doguzova, told Komsomolskaya Pravda that she had asked him to help extend her compatriots' stay in hotels. Quoting her, Sega writes: "Minister Prodanov offered to help organise an air corridor to evacuate the Russian tourists" (our translation). The Ministry of Tourism confirmed the conversation but declined to give further details. — Sega, 28 February 2022

Other

  • Called for the aid for Ukrainian refugees to end by 31 May. As Minister of Tourism for the BSP he told BNT that the 40 leva a day per sheltered refugee which the state pays to hoteliers should end: "That is, we showed solidarity and support in the first three months, after which they must start to live and work like everyone else" (our translation). He also spoke of people "with expensive cars" (our translation) among them. Svobodna Evropa notes that the figures he cited contradict those published on the Bulgaria for Ukraine portal, and that Col. Valeri Rachev, head of the National Crisis Staff, had also announced that payments to hotels would stop by the same deadline. — Svobodna Evropa (RFE/RL), 20 April 2022
  • Spoke up for the state-owned Kintex. As a BSP MP on BNT's Още от деня he said that ruining the company would be disastrous for the military-industrial complex, and criticised the proposal to switch the producer from a private firm to another one. He denied that the left was defending EMKO's recent owner, Emiliyan Gebrev: "The state cannot seize businesses in this crude way" (our translation). — BNT, 27 September 2017
  • Appointed on a party quota to a municipal company. Duma reprinted, abridged, a Mediapool piece headlined "Cronyism by competition" (our translation): he joined the board of Pazari Iztok on the BSP quota, having recently become deputy chair of the party's city leadership. He is described as a former head of the state company Kintex and, in 2012, director of the municipal Galateya. — Duma, 18 July 2016
