Russia

  • Asks whether the exports to Poland reach Ukraine. In August 2022 the BSP website quoted his Facebook post addressed to the President: "And the arms commission exports arms worth €1 billion at a single meeting" (our translation). Of that sum, €600 million went to Poland. — bsp.bg (BSP press service), 14.08.2022
  • Claim in parliament about supplies to Ukraine. In January 2023, citing the caretaker economy minister, he told parliament that "not a single cartridge" had been exported (our translation), Utro Ruse reports, citing BTA. — Utro Ruse, 18.01.2023

Corruption and scandals

  • The dispute over the BSP's registration for the elections. The party distanced itself from him and Georgi Svilenski, whom the former chair had authorised to register the BSP for the elections: the attempts to install them were "simply a last attempt by Ninova to get around the term limits" (our translation), News.bg reports. On Nova TV's morning programme, as quoted by 24 Chasa, he claimed there was evidence of pressure on members of the Central Election Commission and that the acting chair, Atanas Zafirov, had filed a document with false content, so they were considering a report to the prosecutor's office. — News.bg, 28.08.2024, 24 Chasa, 29.08.2024

Other

  • Expelled from the BSP together with Korneliya Ninova. The power of attorney the former chair gave to him and to Georgi Svilenski caused significant upset among the acting leadership, because it left her in control of decisions about candidates and their registration for the elections, The Sofia Globe reports. On 1 September 2024 the National Council expelled her, and the executive council also voted to expel the two of them and Krum Donchev. — The Sofia Globe, 01.09.2024
