Russia

  • Sanctions. On 24.09.2026 parliament passed at first reading, with 183 votes for and 10 against, amendments to the Criminal Code penalising breaches of EU restrictive measures. Ivan Vachev of Progressive Bulgaria said the directive is more than a year late in being transposed, that the measures apply regardless of the country concerned, and that there are currently sanctions packages against the Russian Federation but it is not known whether the European Commission will not impose packages against other countries; he said PB had proposed a working group to clean up the texts. — Club Z, 24.09.2026

Corruption and scandals

  • The declaration. Mediapool writes that Ivan Vachev's declaration could not be found in the MPs' section of the Audit Office website. After publication the Audit Office clarified that Vachev had filed an irregular declaration – he filled in a form in leva instead of euro – and that his declaration is yet to be published. — Mediapool, 27.08.2026
