Corruption and scandals

  • Fake Covid certificates from a vaccination point at the hospital he headed. In November 2021 the Ministry of the Interior and the district prosecutor's office announced that they had uncovered a scheme of about 250 forged certificates issued at vaccination points in Rakovski and Asenovgrad. One of the points was at the hospital he headed at the time. According to 24 Chasa, the district prosecutor Chavdar Groshev stated that "there is no evidence he was complicit in the crime" (our translation). The Plovdiv regional prosecutor's office sent a doctor from the hospital (A.Z.) to trial for the period 28.06–11.11.2021, and the case went on with witness hearings. He himself has not been charged. According to presstv.bg, GERB (Desislava Atanasova) said he had not known, while the same site notes that inaction is also punishable. — 24 Chasa, 30.11.2021
  • His nephew heads UMBAL Plovdiv after a disputed competition. According to 24plovdiv, Dr Yovko Chervenkov, the MP's nephew, won the competition for director in October 2025 ahead of the incumbent, Dr Dincho Genev. Medics who support Genev protested for weeks and claimed that the competition was rigged. No evidence is given that the MP intervened. The new director took up the post in June 2026. No inspection, charge or court ruling about the procedure is known. — 24 Chasa Plovdiv online, 24.06.2026

Other

  • Sued the hospital for compensation for unused leave. 24 Chasa reports that in June 2022 the Plovdiv District Court awarded him over 45,000 leva for 169 days of unused leave from MBAL Asenovgrad, the municipal hospital he headed from 2004 to November 2021. The ruling went his way because the defendant had not responded to the claim. It is not known whether it was enforced or appealed. — 24 Chasa, 20.06.2022
