Corruption and scandals
- Double voting at the European elections – the case closed. Sega, citing a disclosure by Capital, writes that a case was brought against him for voting twice at the 2019 European elections; the Criminal Code provides probation and a fine of up to 2,000 leva for this. The prosecution knew he had been elected an MP but did not suspend the case; it filed it in court proposing release from criminal liability and a fine. According to Sega, the Sofia District Court found that the documents incriminated him but that parliamentary immunity barred the proceedings, terminated them in early October 2022 and returned the case to the prosecution; the Sofia City Court upheld this on 7 December 2022. Sega found the ruling in the court registers. The prosecution did not request the lifting of his immunity, and on 7 March 2023 it closed the investigation: the supervising prosecutor judged the act of minor significance, Sofia district prosecutor Nevena Zartova confirmed to Sega. — Sega, 03.02.2023, Sega, 16.03.2023
- Told the prosecution he was unemployed. Sega writes that when he was charged in March 2022, when he was already an MP, he told prosecutors that he was unemployed, and they believed him. In the outlet's reading, the City Court's ruling shows that he misled them. — Sega, 03.02.2023
- Expelled from the Vazrazhdane parliamentary group. RFE/RL reports that party leader Kostadin Kostadinov announced his expulsion together with Aleksandar Arangelov and Nikolay Drenchev. According to Kostadinov, who is a party to the dispute, the three had put forward the councillors who broke away a day earlier and backed Tsvetomir Petrov (PP-DB-SS) for chairman of the Sofia City Council; they were offered to resign but preferred to stay in parliament. Drenchev said on behalf of the three that they do not feel like traitors and cannot be reproached for any action they took. — RFE/RL Bulgarian Service, 09.02.2024
- Balgaria moje sets out grounds for his expulsion from the party. In a press release carried by BTA, the party Balgaria moje sets out grounds for the expulsion of co-chair Ruschev and five other members; the text is the party's own. It alleges that, against a decision of the Executive Council, he registered the party on his own for the partial mayoral election in the Iskar district; that without a council decision he held a meeting at the US embassy on the death of Charlie Kirk and made statements on the party's behalf; and that at a council meeting covered by minutes he threatened deputy chair Teodor Dimokenchev with reprisal. — BTA (press release of the party Balgaria moje), 28.01.2026
