Corruption and scandals

• The higher-education diploma. The daily 24 Chasa writes that the Haskovo district prosecutor's office, after a check opened on a publication in the daily 168 Chasa, established that Ivo Dimov had never been issued a higher-education diploma, and that the mayor admitted this to the prosecutors. In April he had told 168 Chasa the opposite: that he held a bachelor's degree in marketing from Plovdiv University from 2010. The university issued an official letter that he had not studied there in 1990-2010. A copy of a diploma was found in the registry of the National Assembly, so the check moved to the Sofia district prosecutor's office. It refused to open criminal proceedings: according to 168 Chasa the copy was not notarised, the original is missing, so no conclusion can be drawn on whether the diploma is forged, and the copy was attached to a parliamentary questionnaire and not used for any benefit.
