Corruption and scandals

  • Public money through his former company. Свободна Европа reports that in 2020 projects linked to Velyov received a total of 37,000 BGN of budget money from the Ministry of Culture and the National Culture Fund through Pendara Productions. He had transferred the company to Nina Nikolina in early June, while the application deadlines were running. At the time he was an adviser to culture minister Boil Banov and later a GERB MP, and his name appeared as the main figure in both applications to the ministry. He confirmed to the outlet that Tumbaito and Amazonia were produced by the company and that he no longer owned it, but said he saw nothing wrong: as an MP he had the right to practise his profession, and he had applied before that. КПКОНПИ's press office declined to comment before looking into the case. — Svobodna Evropa via skif.bg, 02.06.2021
  • Company transferred to his sister Milena Velyova. Свободна Европа reports that his entry into parliament was the reason he transferred his second company, KV Productions, to his sister on 24.07.2020. It also applied to Ministry of Culture programmes but was not approved. — Svobodna Evropa via skif.bg, 02.06.2021
