Russia

  • The war in Ukraine in his election campaign. As a parliamentary candidate, speaking on Evrokom, he named the war as the issue that worries people most and stressed: "The BSP has already submitted a draft decision to the National Assembly that not a single soldier be sent" (our translation). His words were published on the party's website. — bsp.bg (BSP press service), 07.06.2024

Corruption and scandals

  • Excluded from the BSP parliamentary group. The BSP National Council voted unanimously, by 107 votes, that he should not be in the parliamentary group and urged him not even to take the oath. Sega explains: "Metodiev is close to the former socialist leader and was her chief of staff" (our translation). Standart calls him the first independent MP of the 50th National Assembly and reports his words on the exclusion vote: "It literally passed by one vote, and it was done by putting pressure on one of the women present" (our translation). The party told NOVA it would comment neither on his claims nor on its decision. — Sega, 15.06.2024, Standart, 21.06.2024

Other

  • Parting ways with President Radev. In September 2020 the head of state signed a decree releasing him from the post of chief of staff. In a Facebook post quoted by BTA he said he was leaving "due to a discrepancy in the assessments, methods and goals of the policy". Later, speaking to bTV, as reported by 24 Chasa, he said: "The concrete reason for my leaving the presidential institution was my visit to a celebration in Borovets" (our translation), where Korneliya Ninova was celebrating her victory in the election for BSP leader. — BTA, 21.09.2020, 24 Chasa, 28.09.2020
