Corruption and scandals
- Call for a check over disclosed tax secrets. Caretaker finance minister Asen Vasilev, on the programme Sunday on NOVA, calls on the prosecution to check how information that is a tax and social-security secret came out "at a press conference of a political party" (our translation). This was the GERB press conference of 4 June, at which Ananiev claimed that the head of the National Revenue Agency, Rumen Spetsov, had personally received the audit order and the audit report for his company Graneks Trader OOD. In the view of Vasilev, who defends Spetsov, the data were obtained and disclosed unlawfully. Whether he will file a signal himself or expects the prosecution to act on its own initiative is not clear from his words, Mediapool writes. — Mediapool, 21.06.2021
- Inquiry into pressure on Bul Bio. The Ministry of Health is assisting КПКОНПИ (the anti-corruption commission) in an inquiry into pressure by the former health minister and his deputy Zheni Nacheva on Sasho Ganov, manager of the state vaccine company. The case dates from 2018: according to caretaker deputy minister Dimitar Petrov, the pressure on Ganov to sign a contract with another, Western European firm as well began with Nacheva and was continued by Ananiev. Mediapool writes that Ganov "was forced to sign the 350,000-euro contract under pressure" (our translation), after which he left and filed a signal with КПКОНПИ; on the basis of that signal the commission's chair requested the original documents from the ministry. — Mediapool, 09.07.2021
Other
- Children's hospital: refusal to terminate the contract. At parliamentary questions, asked about the future of the National Children's Hospital, he refuses to terminate the contract with the contractor DZZD Detsko Zdrave under the ministry's public procurement worth nearly 100 million leva: "I cannot agree that I should terminate the contract, which has gone through the whole procedure and has been shown to contain no violations" (our translation). In his account the appeal of the Chamber of Architects in Bulgaria against the opening of the procurement was dismissed as unfounded, including by the Supreme Administrative Court. All members of the consortium are from the Glavbolgarstroy group, Mediapool notes; the civic initiative For a Real Children's Hospital wants an entirely new architectural competition. — Mediapool, 10.07.2020
