Communist Party and State Security
- Grandparents in camps under communism, according to Petkov. On 2 July 2023 he stated publicly: "Most people know that my grandmother Raina Petkova and my grandfather Kiril Petkov were in camps during the communist regime" (our translation). He says his grandmother, a nurse at ИСУЛ, refused to become a ДС collaborator. He was defending his ally Vasil Terziev against ДС-related attacks. GERB MP Delyan Dobrev, a political opponent, challenged the statement and asked for documents to be published, Standart reports. — Standart News, 02.07.2023
- His father describes the dossiers of his own parents that he read. Petko Petkov writes that he spent four hours in the Dossier Commission reading room and saw his own parents' files. Of them he states: "Both were interned in the labour camp near the village of Nozharevo." (our translation) He says a ДС recruiting officer recorded ending the attempt to recruit his mother. This is the account of an interested party, not a Commission decision; Plovdiv24.bg reports it via Sofia24.bg. He promised copies later; it has not been confirmed that they appeared. — Plovdiv24.bg, 08.07.2023
- ПИК: claims about father Petko Petkov and ДС. ПИК, followed by Epicenter, alleges that Petko Petkov, born 13.06.1958, left for Canada in 1988 on the Cuban flights, which could not happen without ДС consent. The outlets also write that "according to former ДС cadres he did favours for them by tracing Bulgarians who owed money in Bulgaria" (our translation). They say he was also an unpaid assistant to Petar Beron at БАН; Beron is described as a ДС agent with the pseudonym Bonchev, and that link concerns Beron, not the father. The claims of ДС service are anonymous and undocumented: no Dossier Commission decision, file number or pseudonym for him was shown. ПИК has a stake: its owner Nedyalko Nedyalkov filed his own signal against his son with КПКОНПИ and the Prosecutor's Office in June 2022. — Epicenter (citing ПИК), 01.09.2023
Corruption and scandals
- On trial for abuse of office over the arrests of 17 March 2022. Sofia City Court is hearing a case against him under Art. 282 of the Criminal Code over the police arrests of Boyko Borisov, Vladislav Goranov and Sevdelina Arnaudova, which the court later declared entirely unlawful. Prosecutors allege he personally directed the police officers; his immunity was requested at the end of 2024 by acting Prosecutor General Sarafov. Petkov calls the case political blackmail and a set-up. Borisov leads GERB and is his political rival. Hearings were held in February, June and September 2026; there is no verdict. — Ruse.news, 28.09.2026
- Resignation as ПП co-chair and MP after a recording about district mayors. On 25.06.2025 he stepped down as co-chair and took political responsibility for the party's failed nominations of Sofia district mayors. The trigger was a recording about alleged corruption involving Sofia deputy mayor Nikola Barbutov and Lyulin district mayor Georgi Todorov, sent to newsrooms by an unknown party. He said he was not leaving over a personal corruption accusation and that he would remain a ПП member. On 30.06.2025 he announced: "Today I am submitting my resignation as a member of the Bulgarian parliament." (our translation) The report is BTA's, reprinted by Utro Ruse. According to Marica and BNT, the Anti-Corruption Commission looked into the case; no result is known. — Utro Ruse (BTA), 30.06.2025
- Conflict-of-interest proceeding over the Bulgarian Development Bank. The anti-corruption commission (КПКОНПИ) opened the proceeding on a signal from the owner of ПИК, who is hostile to Petkov, Trud writes. According to the paper, as caretaker economy minister he appointed new management at the state Bulgarian Development Bank (ББР), after which a legal-services contract followed with a law firm where Lena Borislavova is a lawyer, at a monthly fee of 13,690 lv. She is described as his close associate. The signal also alleges improper personal relations and a trip to Thessaloniki. GERB (Desislava Atanasova) speaks of damage to the bank of about 1 million lv, and MEP Angel Dzhambazki (ВМРО) also made accusations. Criminal probes against Borislavova and a prosecutor's check were later reported. No final decision of the commission and no charge against Petkov over the case has been found. — Trud, 24.06.2022
- Civil suit against Delyan Peevski over insinuations about drugs. According to Sega, Petkov is claiming 5,000 lv from the leader of DPS-New Beginning, a political opponent. The cause is Peevski's public insinuations that he used drugs when he ordered Borisov's arrest. He presented negative blood, urine and hair tests from the Military Medical Academy (ВМА). The Sofia District Court ordered expert examinations, after which a dispute arose over a scan allegedly ordered in Varna. According to the latest reports from the paper and Town.bg the case is pending; no ruling has been found. — Sega, 01.04.2025
- Claims that Alexei Petrov mediated the ПП-ДБ/ГЕРБ cabinet deal. In 2023 Boyko Borisov (ГЕРБ), a political rival, said the late Alexei Petrov had mediated the deal, naming the MP's father Petko Petkov among the participants. Petkov denied any meeting between himself, Borisov and Petrov and explained: "My father knew Alexei Petrov through karate." (our translation) Mediapool reports that a meeting with Borisov did take place (at the Samokov convent), but without Petrov. The father declined to comment to 24 Chasa. According to Blitz, Petrov himself said he knew him and that no such meeting took place. No charges were brought. — bTV News, 04.09.2023
- Bivol: claims he entered government on false documents. The portal alleges fraud connected with his exit from the association Koral and with a conflict-of-interest declaration to КПКОНПИ. Tribune.bg, summarising Bivol, writes: "The false documents were filed with the Registry Agency by none other than lawyer Lena Borislavova in person" (our translation), with her electronic signature according to the outlet. No charge or ruling has been found. — Tribune.bg (citing Bivol), 01.04.2024
