Russia

  • United Russia. In April 2025 Vazrazhdane signed a cooperation agreement with United Russia, signed by deputy chair Tsoncho Ganev and Vladimir Yakushev; Kostadinov announced it on Facebook and United Russia on its website. According to Kostadinov, the agreement provides for an exchange of experience, ideas and political practices. Vazrazhdane did not answer RFE/RL's question about its contents. — RFE/RL, 29.04.2025
  • The Moscow parade. In May 2025 Kostadinov, in Moscow for the 80th anniversary of the Soviet Union's victory over Nazi Germany, wrote on Facebook that he was watching the parade on Red Square from "almost the first row" (our translation). Mediapool writes that he was far from the first row and not among the official guests, but among ordinary people between the 8th and 10th rows of the spectator stands. — Mediapool, 09.05.2025
  • A delegation over Lukoil. In November 2025 Kostadinov told journalists in parliament: "Our delegation is going to Russia to hold talks on the sanctions against Lukoil" (our translation). He said the delegation would take part in a high-level forum for BRICS-EU cooperation, and that Bulgaria could ask to be excluded from the sanctions or say it will not comply with them. — BTA, 12.11.2025
  • Sanctions and fuel. In March 2026 in Varna Kostadinov said that instead of handing out aid over rising fuel prices, the sanctions against Russia should be lifted, and that if this were done fuel would become 40 percent cheaper by the end of the week. — BTA, 25.03.2026

Corruption and scandals

  • Hate speech. In March 2026 the Supreme Administrative Court finally confirmed that Kostadinov harassed and used hate speech against PP-DB MP Daniel Lorer, both through his own Facebook posts and through deliberate inaction regarding inciting and antisemitic comments by followers. According to the Bulgarian Helsinki Committee, this is the first case of hate speech by a politician to end with a conviction at last instance. — RFE/RL, 02.03.2026
  • Defamation of a journalist. In August 2023 Sega, citing bird.bg, reported that the Sofia City Court had ordered Kostadinov to pay journalist Vasil Ivanov BGN 5,000 in damages for insulting and defamatory statements about Ivanov published on Kostadinov's Facebook profile in May 2020. The ruling is not final; Ivanov's claim against the Vazrazhdane party was rejected. — RFE/RL, 04.08.2023
  • The party subsidy. In May 2020 the Varna District Prosecutor's Office opened pre-trial proceedings for aggravated embezzlement against Kostadinov following reports by Nova TV; the prosecutor's office said it would check the acquisition of properties and the movement on the accounts of Vazrazhdane. — Sega, 13.05.2020
  • The closed case. According to Sega, the investigation into the party subsidy was closed in 2021 "on the ground that there is no crime" (our translation). This comes from a single outlet; no confirmation from the prosecutor's office was found. — Sega, 04.08.2023
  • The villa. In March 2023 BIRD (Atanas Tchobanov) claimed that Kostadinov had not declared a garage and an annex, the latter entered in the cadastre as an agricultural building, located on the property of his house in the village of Konstantinovo, bought in December 2019; according to BIRD they are missing from his declaration of 24.10.2022 and from his earlier declarations. The previous owner told BIRD the structures are temporary and movable. BIRD notes that Kostadinov's name does not appear on the anti-corruption commission's lists of discrepancies in declarations. The page is an unchecked English machine translation; it contains no reply from Kostadinov to this publication. — BIRD, 02.03.2023
