Corruption and scandals

  • Access to information. In June 2023 Sabev was one of nine GERB MPs who tabled amendments to the Access to Public Information Act under which primary accounting documents would no longer count as public information. According to Sega, the nine "in practice adopt as their own proposals pressed for by the National Association of Municipalities in Bulgaria" (our translation). The Access to Information Programme (PDI) says closing access to primary accounting documents can be qualified "only as an attempt to introduce opacity, lack of accountability, preconditions for corruption and irregularities in the spending of public funds" (our translation). — Sega, 19.06.2023
  • The invoices. In June 2023 Mediapool wrote that under GERB's amendments to the Access to Public Information Act primary accounting documents would no longer count as public information, meaning the administration would no longer be obliged to hand over invoices for payments made with state, municipal and European money. The proposal was made by nine GERB MPs, among them Krasimir Sabev; according to the outlet they "adopt as their own proposals pressed for by the National Association of Municipalities in the Republic of Bulgaria" (our translation). The criticism comes from the rights organisation Access to Information Programme. — Mediapool, 20.06.2023
