Corruption and scandals

  • The gunpowder plant. In October 2025 Vazrazhdane organised a protest in Karlovo against VMZ Sopot's intention to build a gunpowder plant together with Rheinmetall. According to Mediapool, MP Krastyo Vrachev said there was no environmental impact assessment for the plot, no public consultation had been held, and the Rose Valley would be polluted. Some of the protesters said it was a "private business between Boyko and Rheinmetall" (our translation). — Mediapool, 30.10.2025
  • The referendum. In February 2026 Vazrazhdane, Vrachev and the initiative committee for a local referendum in Karlovo claimed that the municipality was trying to nullify the referendum on the gunpowder plant in the village of Iganovo: the committee had not been invited to the check and count of the signatures by GRAO's Plovdiv unit. Vrachev is quoted: "For a civic initiative with over 6,000 signatures, the absence of a representative of the petitioner is not a formality but a matter of trust" (our translation). The occasion was Karlovo municipality's statement that nearly a third of the signatures were incorrect; the source is the party's own statement. — BTA, 26.02.2026
