Corruption and scandals
- Chair of the ББР supervisory board at the time of the 75 m leva loan. As deputy minister of economy he chaired the supervisory board of the Bulgarian Development Bank (ББР), which approved a loan of 75 m leva to a company linked to the debt collector С. Г. груп. Svobodna Evropa notes that the biography published on his appointment as minister leaves this fact out. PM Бойко Борисов dismissed the bank's entire management board. No responsibility was sought from the supervisory board, although the management said the approval was the board's. The minister at the time, Емил Караниколов, said the supervisors bore no blame at all for the loan, granted at the end of March, and said of their chair: „Имам 100% доверие в него“ (our translation: I have 100% trust in him). Sega counters that under the statute every large loan is approved by the supervisory board. The outlet also writes that on 7 April the board quietly approved the proposal to appoint another executive director, Живко Тодоров. — Svobodna Evropa, 24.07.2020, Sega, 09.04.2020
