Corruption and scandals

• His signature on Investbank's agreement with Vasko from Moderno predgradie. As executive director of Investbank he co-signed with Plamen Milkov the agreement under which the bank handed BGN 1.19 million, which a court had ordered it to return to ДИГ-94, to Vasil Kolev (Vasko from Moderno predgradie), who had been registered with forged documents as the company's co-manager. Mediapool reports this from the documents published by Bird.bg; the case was first described by Capital and E-vestnik. The Sofia City Prosecutor's Office investigation, opened in 2015, is continuing, and the outlet learns from unnamed sources in the prosecution: „So far there is no result from the investigation, it is still pending, and the prosecution's deadlines keep being extended“ (our translation). On bTV Karimanski says: „I did not take part in this case“ and „This is an attack on me in the way it is presented“ (our translation). — Mediapool, 07.04.2022
• Asen Vasilev ordered to pay BGN 5,000 for defaming him. The Sofia City Court (Judge Stiliyana Grigorova) partly upheld his BGN 26,000 claim against the finance minister over an April 2022 interview on Darik in which Vasilev said he had put his signature under a document by which BGN 1 million of an Investbank depositor „were stolen“ (our translation). In the court's words, „Vasilev has expressed a claim that crosses the limits of freedom of opinion“ (our translation), presenting him as an accomplice in a crime for which there is neither a final conviction nor a charge. • Backed only by ИТН and ДПС for BNB governor in 2022. As ИТН's candidate for governor he failed to get the votes needed in parliament: only ИТН and ДПС voted for him, while the coalition partner PP nominated Andrey Gyurov. According to Sega this was one of the reasons for the rift in the coalition and the fall of Kiril Petkov's government. By a decree of President Rumen Radev of 30.09.2024 he was appointed a member of the BNB Governing Council from 02.12.2024, replacing Lyudmila Elkova of the presidential quota. — Sega, 01.10.2024
• The banks of Fuat Guven and Petya Slavova. The writer Kalin Todorov writes on Facebook, quoted by Actualno, that he was long-time executive director of Demir Bank, „Fuat Guven's vault“ (our translation), whom Todorov calls the financial backbone of ДПС, and then took over Investbank, „the vault of Petya Slavova, the protégée of Lyuben Gotsev“ (our translation). In an interview for Flagman, published by the outlet, he answers that he was an adviser at Demir Bank from June 2006 to November 2007 and that „I am not close, and there is no way I can be close, to Fuat Guven“ (our translation). — Actualno, 23.08.2021
• Joint firms with Maya Bezhanska. Lupa.bg, from searches in the commercial registers, writes that he is a long-time partner of the actress and of her husband Vladimir Voynovski; through their joint Yun Kamp OOD the three build villas and holiday houses in Yundola on municipal land whose sale was decided by the then mayor of Velingrad in 2014. Also according to the registers, all firms in which he was a partner or manager „have been transferred to his father Anton“ (our translation). — Lupa.bg, 05.04.2022
• Claim of conflicts of interest at ББР. As an ИТН MP in the 45th National Assembly he tells bTV: „I have information that in some of the ББР deals there was a conflict of interest.“ (our translation) As an example he says that in 2016 the chairman of the bank's Management Board voted for a loan to a company of which he was executive director. — Glasove.com, 31.05.2021
