Corruption and scandals
- Her brother manages a fund with €30 million of EU money. Her brother Stoyan Stoev Nedin has been a partner in Vitosha Venture Partners OOD since 2023; since 24.04.2025 he is manager and 34% partner of Vitosha Venture Partners II OOD, and since 09.06.2025 of Vitosha Ventures 2 OOD, according to the Commercial Register (papagal.bg). In January 2025 the Fund of Funds selected the consortium Vitosha Venture Partners II to manage an early-stage entrepreneurship fund "with public financial resources of 30 million euro" (our translation); the money comes from the Competitiveness and Innovation in Enterprises programme 2021–2027, co-financed by the EU, Forbes Bulgaria reports. Two rival bidders appealed the selection to the competition commission. From 19.02 to 08.05.2026 Maria Nedina was caretaker deputy prime minister for European funds. We found no record of whether she recused herself from decisions touching the Fund of Funds or that programme. — Commercial Register (papagal.bg): Stoyan Stoev Nedin, Forbes Bulgaria, 31.01.2025
- Allegation of a conflict of interest involving her brother and the Recovery Plan. Maria Nedina, then an adviser to Atanas Pekanov, and her brother were positioning themselves around the Recovery Plan, claims Галерия (reprinted by Blitz.bg from Рикошет), citing anonymous sources. The outlet wrote: „Подобен казус е червена лампичка за конфликт на интереси“ (our translation: "Such a case is a red flag for a conflict of interest"). The same article says her brother does not see such a conflict. No investigation, KPKONPI act or rebuttal has been found. — Blitz.bg (reprinted from Рикошет), 11.08.2021
- Epicenter.bg claims about her brother's business and her appointment. Her brother's green-energy business is a conflict of interest with her role on EU funds and coal, claims Epicenter.bg. The same text says: „По време на Сглобката родителите уреждат дъщеря си в държавната администрация“ (our translation: "During the Sglobka her parents arranged their daughter into the state administration"). The piece is a commentary critical of PP and the Sglobka. It cites no document or institutional decision. No check or reaction by any institution has been found. — Epicenter.bg, 20.02.2026
- Bivol: Stoyan Nedin, a partner in Спринг Юръп, and the Fund of Funds. Stoyan Nedin bought a stake in Тервел 1 ООД from the future head of the Sofia Privatisation Agency, Bivol reports in an investigation; Спринг Юръп, of which he is a partner, had applied under the Fund of Funds start-up-fund procedure. Nedin says this is not a conflict of interest. Blitz and Галерия reproduce the story and describe Stoyan Nedin as Maria Nedina's brother. The investigation itself has no direct link to her. No sanction or charge has been found. Blitz writes that Спринг Юръп withdrew from the competition. — Bivol.bg, 2020 (approximate date)
Other
- Led the caretaker government's work on the Recovery Plan. As deputy prime minister, Nedina also led the negotiations with the European Commission on extending the Recovery and Resilience Plan (RRP), News.bg writes. At the end of the term, Prime Minister Andrey Gyurov said the extension covers about 400 million euro of withheld money. Nedina said the sum depends on the reforms the new National Assembly adopts, the principle being „пари срещу реформи“ (our translation: "money for reforms"). This is the caretaker government's self-assessment, not an independent one. The deadline for the anti-corruption reform and the chief prosecutor reform has been moved to later RRP payments, and the outcome depends on the National Assembly. — News.bg, 08.05.2026
- Toest commentary on her experience before the appointment. Her position as deputy prime minister for EU funds causes bewilderment, Toest.bg commented: outside her work as adviser to Atanas Pekanov and chief of the political cabinet of two caretaker environment ministers, her experience is modest. This is an opinion, not a finding of wrongdoing. No consequences have been found. — Toest.bg, 20.02.2026
