Corruption and scandals

  • Zaharna Fabrika. Emil Branchevski, mayor of Sofia's Ilinden district, told BNT, as quoted by Dir.bg, that "the problem of discontent in Zaharna Fabrika over the demolition of the illegal buildings came purely politically from Marin Tihomirov of PP, who created a problem where there is none, so as to develop his political career" (our translation). Branchevski defends the demolition and is a party to the dispute over it; the article carries no reply from Tihomirov. — Dir.bg, 23.04.2025
  • Municipal flats. RFE/RL reports that Emil Branchevski, mayor of Sofia's Ilinden district, on whose order the buildings in the Roma settlement in Zaharna Fabrika were demolished, claims the residents were incited by the local "Continuing the Change" activist Marin Tihomirov to refuse at the last moment the housing provided in the temporary centre, and told BNT: "Tihomirov lied to the people that they were entitled to municipal apartments" (our translation). The article carries no reply from Tihomirov. — RFE/RL, 24.04.2025
