Corruption and scandals

  • Prosecution alleges bribes over school gym renovations. The Sofia City Prosecutor's Office alleges that, together with an accomplice with the initials Т.Дз., the MP solicited and received bribes of 10,000 BGN, 10,000 EUR and 7,200 BGN from a company representative. The money was allegedly for influencing tenders for school gym renovations in Червен бряг and Койнаре, worth about 474,686 BGN and about 1.17 million BGN excluding VAT. The pre-trial proceeding was opened on 04.04.2025. Acting Prosecutor General Sarafov, then in conflict with the ДПС camp, asked parliament to lift his immunity. Radio Free Europe reports that this was the second such request and that, according to the prosecution, procurements worth over 1.5 million BGN were manipulated. The allegations come from a party to the case. Rangelov says he does not trust the way the evidence was collected. No reports of an indictment, trial or verdict were found. — 24 chasa, 15.04.2025, Radio Free Europe (Svobodna Evropa), 14.04.2025
  • Immunity request over payments to voters. In December 2024 the prosecution asked for his immunity to be lifted, citing the forming and leading of a group to commit crimes against citizens' political rights: organising a payment of 15,000 BGN to induce voters to back one coalition in the elections of 27.10.2024. Its press release was republished by Утро Русе. Parliament refused by a decision of 24.01.2025, and a repeat request was filed on 04.02.2025. It is not confirmed whether the proceeding has moved forward since. — Utro Ruse, 04.02.2025
  • Waiver of parliamentary immunity. The Speaker of the National Assembly announced that, as an independent MP, he had given up his immunity on the first day of the new parliamentary session. He had earlier declined to do so voluntarily and, according to e-news.bg, said together with Ибрямов that they did not believe in a fair judicial process. Since then he can be prosecuted. No later reports of charges were found. — Pirinsko.com, 03.09.2025
  • Claim of property dealings with his sister. Wikipedia claims that as a municipal councillor in Червен бряг he "got tangled in multiple property affairs together with his sister Ася Рангелова" (our translation), without naming a specific case or document. Its sources are МИГNews and crimesbg, which use a sensational tone; who stands behind them is not established. No charge, ruling or inspection result was found. — Wikipedia (bg), 01.05.2025

Other

  • Leaves the АПС group, later heads a ДПС list. He left the АПС group, where he was deputy chair, and became an independent amid the investigations against him. He cited a lack of leadership in the faction. Сега and МИГNews present this as the end of Dogan's camp; Сега notes that he was among the first MPs Dogan turned to against Пеевски. In April 2026 he headed the ДПС list in 11 МИР Ловеч, i.e. for the Пеевски-led party his former group had opposed, as BNT, BTA and Mediapool report. He does not appear in the lists of those elected that were seen. — Focus News, 03.07.2025
