Corruption and scandals
- The Supreme Bar Council opens disciplinary proceedings against her. The Supreme Bar Council (ВАдС), which is a party to the dispute, states that at a session of 06.11.2020 it „взе решение за образуване на дисциплинарно производство срещу адвокат Меглена Хари Гунчева“ (our translation: decided to open disciplinary proceedings against lawyer Meglena Hari Guncheva) in her capacity as chair of the Bar Council in Haskovo. The charge is continued non-compliance with its decisions No 2265 of 10.01.2020 and No 2462 of 08.05.2020: to submit lists of the monthly fees paid by lawyers and to transfer what was collected. It cites withheld sums of 5,742 leva as of 30.04.2020, 32,168 leva as of 01.07.2020 and over 44,000 leva as of 31.12.2020; the Haskovo council is said to be the only one that transfers just half. It does not share the view of some lawyers who justify her actions by a decision of the general assembly of lawyers of 22.02.2020; whether there is a violation will be decided by the Supreme Disciplinary Court.
