Corruption and scandals

  • Dismissal motion. In May 2022, when Miroslav Ivanov was deputy speaker of the National Assembly for We Continue the Change, GERB, DPS and Vazrazhdane tabled a draft decision to remove him early. Mediapool writes that the occasion was his cutting off GERB group leader Desislava Atanasova while chairing; the opposition's reasoning says that when he chairs, "gross errors are made in the procedural rules" (our translation). — Mediapool, 18.05.2022
  • The vote. News.bg reports that Ivanov apologised to Desislava Atanasova, "although he did not think he had acted wrongly" (our translation); 81 MPs voted for his dismissal and 129 against. — News.bg, 19.05.2022
  • Lyulin. PIK, citing Epicenter, writes that according to the testimony of Lyulin district mayor Georgi Todorov before the Commission for Combating Corruption, Kiril Petkov asked him: "Can you appoint Miroslav Ivanov deputy mayor of Lyulin, so that we help Lena's family budget" (our translation); PIK describes Ivanov as Lena Borislavova's husband. Todorov gave the testimony hours after he, another district mayor and two municipal councillors announced they were leaving We Continue the Change, citing corrupt pressure on them. The text makes no allegation of wrongdoing by Ivanov. — PIK, 28.06.2025
