Communist Party and State Security
- Alleged kinship with Kircho Kirov. Bivol wrote in 2012 that the then legal adviser to President Plevneliev is a niece of Kirov, a former head of the National Intelligence Service and a State Security cadre, and that she lived in his flat while studying in Sofia. The type of kinship is unclear: the text speaks of both a maternal and a paternal uncle. After she was elected speaker of parliament, the claim was repeated by Lupa.bg, a tabloid site that positions itself against the socialists, with no new documents and wording that follows the first report, and by the weekly Weekend, reprinted by a-specto.bg and by far-right and conspiracy sites. Weekend relies on anonymous insiders and colleagues from her faculty, and adds that the general lacked NATO clearance because of his past in the services. No reply or denial from her has been found. — Bivol, 03.02.2012, Lupa.bg, 06.12.2024, A-specto.bg (from Weekend), 06.12.2024
- Kircho Kirov – a career in State Security and intelligence. In an interview with Trud, Kirov, whom Bivol names as her relative, says: „Аз 40 години 9 месеца и 12 дни без прекъсване съм бил в служба на тази държава и органите й за сигурност“ (our translation: “I was in the service of this state and its security organs for 40 years, 9 months and 12 days without a break”). Wikipedia states that in 1975 he joined the services as an intelligence officer (third degree) in the MVR–State Security district directorate in Vratsa. Trud writes that in 1980 he studied at the KGB intelligence academy in Moscow. — Trud, c. 20.01.2024
Russia
- Specialisation at Moscow State University. Boulevard Bulgaria writes that she specialised at Lomonosov University in 2014 and at Cambridge in 2015. The fact has been recalled by right-leaning sites. — Boulevard Bulgaria, 06.12.2024
Corruption and scandals
- DANS letter on Nevzorov moved to the classified registry. Vazrazhdane, a political opponent, accused her of concealing the report on the Russian journalist Aleksandr Nevzorov and the Baba Alino development near Varna. On Bulgaria ON AIR she confirms the transfer and explains: „My understanding as a lawyer was that, since this is information containing the names of DANS officers“ (our translation; the quote is partial). She denies hiding the document from Radev or party leaders, and calls its sending to the open registry a provocation or incompetence. No investigation or act against her has been found. — Bulgaria ON AIR, 04.06.2026
- President's proposal for a euro referendum returned. She returned it as speaker of parliament. Euronews Bulgaria quotes her as saying that even today she would not allow it to be debated in the chamber. — Euronews Bulgaria, 14.05.2026
- The court cases against Kircho Kirov. They concern only Kirov, whom Bivol names as her relative. Sofia military prosecutors charged him with embezzling about 5.1 million leva in 2007–2011. In 2018 he was sentenced at first instance to 15 years, and according to Lupa.bg he also received a 2-year suspended sentence that year for disclosing classified information. Radio Free Europe reports that the Supreme Court of Cassation later ended the embezzlement proceedings on grounds of mental incapacity, and that two other cases have not concluded. — Lupa.bg, 06.12.2024
- Plagiarism allegations. The student group Будни студенти, which is in dispute with her, claims that her habilitation monograph Политически права на българските граждани is plagiarised. According to the weekly Weekend, the Faculty of Law has made no public reaction, and no assessment by a committee or the university has been found. Boulevard Bulgaria notes that her dissertation has drawn attention. — A-specto.bg (from Weekend), 06.12.2024
Other
- Elected speaker of the National Assembly in December 2024. The election came after ten failed votes. Sega writes: „The BSP candidate won with the support of GERB-SDS, PP-DB and APS“ (our translation). ITN and MECh, political competitors, accused the vote of being a Peevski candidacy, because DPS-NN had also backed her the day before; she says BSP held no talks with that party. She remained in the post until about 29.10.2025. — Sega, 06.12.2024
