Communist Party and State Security

  • Agent "Tomov" from Elhovo municipality, with the same patronymic and surname. A question for the MP. In Decision No. 2-26 of 27 June 2012 (Shumen University "Episkop Konstantin Preslavski") the Dossier Commission announces that Angel Krastev Dimitrov, born on 30 March 1951 in the village of Pchela, Elhovo municipality, belonged to State Security. He was recruited on 7 October 1975 by Boncho Asenov for the Sixth Directorate as agent "Tomov"; his personal and work files were destroyed in February 1990 under a letter of 27 February of that year. At the time of the check he was head of a department at the university. The MP was born in 1990 in Elhovo; his patronymic is Angelov. We found no source that confirms or rules out that they are father and son. Our question to Nikola Dimitrov: is Angel Krastev Dimitrov your father? — Dossier Commission, Decision No. 2-26/2012, Dossier Commission, Persons checked, National Assembly, profile

Russia

  • Parliament put off the question of his immunity. Parliament has put off, for now, consideration of the prosecution's requests to lift the immunity of six MPs, Mediapool.bg writes. They include Nikola Dimitrov and his Vazrazhdane colleagues Slavcho Krumov, Ivaylo Chorbov and Yordan Todorov, as well as Dzheyhan Ibryamov and Mario Rangelov of DPS-Dogan. The items were removed from the agenda at the request of their party, which GERB supported. — Mediapool.bg, 08.05.2025

Corruption and scandals

  • Against a multinational NATO group near Yambol. As lead candidate of the Vazrazhdane list in Yambol, Nikola Dimitrov said in an interview with StandartNews.com: „Решението за бойна група в Кабиле представлява риск за жителите на Ямболска област, особено в днешната сложна геополитическа обстановка.“ (our translation: The decision on a battle group in Kabile poses a risk to the residents of Yambol region, especially in today's complex geopolitical situation.) The decision had already been passed by the parliamentary majority. — StandartNews.com, 17.04.2026
  • The Prosecutor General asked for his immunity to be lifted. The request relates to a protest organised by Vazrazhdane. Sega quotes the prosecution's reasoning: "According to the prosecution, the hooligan actions of Dimitrov and Todorov consisted of breaking through the police cordon set up to restrict the protesters' access to the building of the European Commission Representation in Sofia and to stop them from damaging it" (our translation). — Novini Sega, 27.02.2025
