Russia

  • Detained after paint was poured on the Russian embassy sign. He poured red paint on the sign at the entrance of the Russian embassy in Sofia during a protest against the violence in Ukraine and was taken in handcuffs to the First District Police Department; Arman Babikyan was also arrested after refusing to show his identity card. The Interior Ministry confirmed to BTA the detention of two people for hooligan acts against the building. On Facebook he described the action as “expression of a civic position against a bloody war waged by a dictator against a sovereign state” (our translation). — RNews.bg, 08.04.2022
  • Remark to the Russian ambassador on air on Nova TV. Angered by a text on the Russian mission's official website calling Bulgaria a “lackey” (our translation) of the United States, he calls the ambassador “comrade Mitrofanova” (our translation) and a representative of the Soviet Union, and directs a vulgar Russian expression at her. Andrey Raichev and Slavi Vasilev leave the studio. — Frognews.bg, 01.03.2022

Corruption and scandals

  • Prosecutors investigate the photographing of the chief prosecutor's chat. The Sofia District Prosecutor's Office opened an investigation into who photographed chief prosecutor Ivan Geshev chatting on Telegram with Sevdalina Arnaudova during a session of the parliamentary legal committee on 10 September; photos were spread by several MPs, among them he and Yavor Bozhankov (BSP). On Facebook he replied: “I photographed the cap! Me! With great pleasure and without a gram of respect!” (our translation) — Blagoevgradski novini, 22.10.2021
