Corruption and scandals

  • Police file over a PP-DB banner in Smolyan. Bairak.bg writes that on 20 March, at the height of the parliamentary election campaign, Daniel Aleksandrov, Nikolay Algafari and Rumen Aleksandrov of GERB's youth organisation committed an act in Smolyan that the outlet calls vandalism. All three were running for MP in Sofia. The occasion was a 13 by 7 metre banner hung by their PP-DB rivals on the facade of the post office in the town centre. According to the site, the Smolyan police opened a file, which, because of candidates' immunity, was sent to the Sofia City Prosecutor's Office. — Bairak.bg, 22.10.2023
  • Proceedings over the Smolyan banner terminated. According to Bairak.bg, the Sofia prosecutor who took the file acknowledges that damaging another's property is a crime but finds it insignificant. The Sofia City Prosecutor's Office terminated the criminal proceedings under Art. 9(2) of the Criminal Code. — Bairak.bg, 22.10.2023
  • His wife – an expert at the Ministry of Innovation and Growth. MIGNews.info, cited by Intrigi.bg, reports that by its check his wife has been an expert in the Policies and Analyses Directorate of the ministry since the end of 2022. There is no information on any later conflict-of-interest inquiry. — Intrigi.bg, 13.07.2025
  • His wife – a member of the monitoring committee of an EU-funded programme. Intrigi.bg claims that Beduyan-Algafari, who has a humanities degree from Plovdiv University, is a member of the interdepartmental Monitoring Committee of the programme Research, Innovation and Digitization for Smart Transformation 2021–2027. According to the outlet, the committee, made up of chosen ministry representatives, distributes tens of millions from the European Union, and she has a decisive vote on which projects get funding. Nothing is known to have followed. — Intrigi.bg, 13.07.2025
