Russia
- Terrorism vote. On 23 November 2022, as a BSP MEP, he voted against the European Parliament resolution declaring Russia a "state sponsor of terrorism" (494 for, 58 against, 44 abstentions). Four other BSP MEPs also voted against. — RFE/RL Bulgaria, 23.11.2022
- Sanctions. On 21 June 2026, as chair of the Progressive Bulgaria parliamentary group, he said on Nova TV that Bulgaria cannot agree to sanctions on Russia that do more harm to the European economy than to Russia, and that it had expressed reservations about sanctions on certain companies and persons. On the proposal to list Patriarch Kirill he said: "We do not see him as a person but as the spiritual leader of the Russian Orthodox Church" (our translation). On sanctions against Lukoil co-owner Vagit Alekperov he explained that the interest lies in the derogation for Lukoil and the refinery. — BTA, 21.06.2026
- Ukraine. 24 Chasa quotes him (from BNT footage): "The prospect of a Ukrainian victory is increasingly unclear. Ukraine has two paths – either a bad peace now, or a worse one in the future" (our translation). He added that Bulgaria's course will not change, but "we must point out the EU's mistakes" (our translation). — 24 Chasa, 02.05.2026
Corruption and scandals
- KNSB. On Facebook, on the occasion of the KNSB protest of 16 October 2026 for higher incomes, he compared KNSB leader Plamen Dimitrov to the American union leader Jimmy Hoffa, who he wrote "used unsuspecting workers to organise strikes in favour of the mafia" (our translation). He went on that in Bulgaria "the most serious union leader is a different breed" (our translation), who protested rarely, "but always in coordination" (our translation) with Borisov and Peevski. He added that the opinion is personal and does not commit anyone in Progressive Bulgaria, and that he has enormous respect for the union's thousands of honest members. — Mediapool, 16.10.2026
