Corruption and scandals

  • Dispute with his successor over the railways. According to Novinite, the former transport minister rejected the claims of his successor Alexander Tsvetkov that his administration had left the state railways in a disastrous condition and squandered the subsidies. He also refuted claims of a scam over the purchase of railway cars: a new sleeping car costs EUR 2 million, while the recycled cars his team bought cost BGN 500,000 each. He said BDZ's short-term debts were BGN 300 million in 2005 and BGN 150 million now. — Novinite, 15.10.2009
