Russia

  • Russian oil. In May 2026 Petar Petrov announced that Vazrazhdane proposes that the Council of Ministers be given the legal possibility to request exemptions from the EU bans on imports of Russian oil and oil products and be authorised to negotiate direct supplies. The source is a Vazrazhdane press release published by BTA. — BTA (Vazrazhdane press release), 07.05.2026
  • The vote. On 2 September 2026 parliament rejected Vazrazhdane’s draft decision for the Council of Ministers to ask the European Commission for an exemption from the ban on imports of Russian oil and oil products: 10 for, 13 against and 115 abstentions. In the debate Petrov said the government has “not a single comprehensive measure through which citizens and businesses can benefit from lower fuel prices” (our translation). — BTA, 02.09.2026
  • Sanctions. On 24 September 2026, at the first reading of Criminal Code amendments on violations of EU restrictive measures (passed with 183 votes for and 10 against), Petrov said Vazrazhdane would vote against and would not join the working group, calling the bill a “legislative miscarriage” (our translation). — Club Z, 24.09.2026

Corruption and scandals

  • Defence lawyer. In February 2025 RFE/RL named MP Petrov as defence lawyer of the accused in the attack on the building of the European Parliament and European Commission in Sofia; the court kept four of them in custody, and Petrov said the defence would appeal. — RFE/RL, 24.02.2025
  • Election case. According to 24 Chasa, Petrov, Vazrazhdane’s candidate for mayor of Montana, lost the administrative case against mayor Zlatko Zhivkov over his win in the local elections (decision of 10 January 2024). The party said the case was against the election commission’s decision, not against the mayor. — 24 Chasa, 01.02.2024
