Corruption and scandals

• Dispute over the replacement of the board of Български спортен тотализатор. Sportal.bg reports that in January 2022 minister Василев replaced the board without the usual competition with people linked to ИТН, Росен Иванов among them. The Sofia City Court twice suspended the registration after a complaint from people close to Борисов, a political rival of the minister. Critics say the appointments were party-political. The site also carries the view of the outgoing management of the betting operator, which was in a dispute with him. The appointment was later registered, and according to Сега Иванов replaced executive director Любомир Петров on the board. No charges against him were found. — Sportal.bg, 24.01.2022
• A local outlet calls him an MP with no ties to the region. The Kardzhali outlet Арда нюз calls him a parachute MP and writes of a man „който вероятно никога не е стъпвал в Източните Родопи“ (our translation: who has probably never set foot in the Eastern Rhodopes). The assessment is editorial, not a legal finding. Nothing else was found beyond the Constitutional Court's annulment of his election. — Арда нюз, 14.03.2025

• His 51st National Assembly mandate was ended by the Constitutional Court. In a decision of 13.03.2025 the Court unanimously declared unlawful his election for ПП МЕЧ in the 9th electoral district (Kardzhali) and ordered the Central Election Commission (ЦИК) to redetermine the results. According to ardanews and news.bg, Костадин Хаджийски of Величие took the Kardzhali seat. Сега writes that МЕЧ was left with 9 MPs, below the 10 needed for a parliamentary group, and the chair declared it dissolved. • Member of the Management Board of Български спортен тотализатор. The local site 24rodopi.com writes that from February to September 2022 he took part in running the state-owned betting operator as a member of its Management Board. He was appointed under sports minister Радостин Василев, then of ИТН and now leader of МЕЧ. According to Сега, all board members, Росен Иванов among them, were released by a ministerial order of 23.08.2022 from caretaker minister Лечева. — 24rodopi.com, 31.10.2024
