In August 2023, as deputy mayor of General Toshevo, he said that in his view the detention of mayor Valentin Dimitrov (BSP) at the request of the European Public Prosecutor's Office over subsidy fraud linked to an energy-efficiency project was an attack on Dimitrov ahead of the local elections.
