Communist Party and State Security
- His father and State Security. In January 2009 the Dossier Commission announced that Vasil Vasilev, head of the Bulgarian National Television correspondent bureau in Paris (1986–1991), had been an agent and secret collaborator of the First and Second Chief Directorates of State Security under the pseudonyms "Paskal" and "Bobev", recruited in 1976: "There is no data on his removal from operational records" (our translation). Mediapool describes him as a businessman and co-owner of the firm "Bratya Vasilevi". The 2009 article does not say he is Slavi Vasilev's father; that link is made by RFE/RL (08.11.2024) and Mediapool (27.08.2026) in the next two items, which give the same pseudonyms. — Mediapool, 28.01.2009
- Mraz. RFE/RL, citing dese.bg (2020), writes that Vasil Vasilev, a former Bulgarian National Television correspondent in Paris, was an agent of the First Chief Directorate under the pseudonym "Bobev" and of the Second Chief Directorate under the pseudonym "Paskal", and in 1981 was enlisted as a non-staff operative (ORON). After the fall of the communist regime he privatised the Sofia refrigeration plant "Mraz" and "is to this day a member of the company's board of directors together with his son, the television commentator Slavi Vasilev" (our translation). — RFE/RL, 08.11.2024
Russia
- Russian influence. In June 2025, as a political analyst on the programme "Zdravey, Bulgaria", Slavi Vasilev said that Russian influence in Bulgaria is "very overestimated" and that it is a "public secret" that among those expelled from the Russian embassy in 2022 on suspicion of espionage there was a Bulgarian agent, whom Moscow did not know about. In the same article he says of journalist Dilyana Gaytandzhieva, whom Christo Grozev and Roman Dobrokhotov claim has links to the GRU: "I firmly believe she has been slandered. In Bulgaria there is no pro-Putin, the president is pro-Bulgaria" (our translation). — Dnes.dir.bg, 02.06.2025
- Russia and Ukraine. Headline in Novini.bg (date not seen): "Slavi Vasilev: We must realise that Russia won and Ukraine lost" (our translation) — Novini.bg, undated
- Lukoil. Headline in Dnevnik (05.05.2026): "Slavi Vasilev: We will replace Spetsov as special commercial manager of Lukoil" (our translation) — Dnevnik, 05.05.2026
Corruption and scandals
- Fuel. Progressive Change (PP) is filing a signal with the anti-corruption commission claiming that Slavi Vasilev took part in the debate and voted in favour of lifting the ban on exports of diesel and jet fuel (23.09.2026) without declaring a private interest. According to the signal, East Petroleum EOOD, whose business includes trade in petroleum products and exports, was founded on 31.01.2025 with Slavi Vasilev as sole owner and manager. PP is a political rival of Progressive Bulgaria. Vasilev says there is no conflict of interest, that the firm does not export diesel but sells fuel within the country, and that he will not sue Nikolay Denkov or BIRD because he does not want to "deal with nonsense" (our translation). The article reports no decision by the commission. — Club Z, 29.09.2026
- The company. A Mediapool check of the Commercial Register shows that East Petroleum EOOD is owned by Vasil Panayotov Vasilev; on 5 February 2026 Slavi Vasilev transferred to him his share of EUR 25,564.59. Nikolay Denkov (PP) claims that Vasilev should have declared a private interest. Vasilev replies: "The company owned by my father does not export diesel abroad" and there is no conflict of interest (our translation). — Mediapool, 25.09.2026
- The Porsche. Mediapool writes that the Porsche Slavi Vasilev declared as bought in 2026 for EUR 53,205 is the same car that was photographed illegally parked in May 2026 and posted on social media; after the outcry Vasilev himself called the traffic police to fine him. — Mediapool, 27.08.2026
Other
- The declaration. In a review of MPs' declarations, Mediapool writes that in the last year before becoming an MP Slavi Vasilev was co-owner of Bratya Vasilevi AD and PAVAS OOD, owner of East Petroleum EOOD, a member of the board of directors of Mraz AD, manager of the association "Victor Hugo" and a member of the supervisory board of the foundation "Bratya Vasilevi", and that his father Vasil Vasilev, who was "an agent of State Security under the pseudonyms Paskal and Bobev", also figures in some of these companies (our translation). — Mediapool, 27.08.2026
