Russia

  • Chairs a European party under scrutiny for compliance with EU values. Europe of Sovereign Nations is led by Stanislav Stoyanov, Novinite reports, citing Politico and Club Z: the Authority for European Political Parties and European Political Foundations (APPF) has produced a 300-page report on whether the party complies with EU values, and a proposal for proceedings that could lead to the party being banned is to be debated in the European Parliament. A key focus of the inquiry is the cooperation agreement between Vazrazhdane and Russia's ruling party United Russia, signed in Moscow on 27 April 2025 by Vazrazhdane deputy chairman Tsoncho Ganev. The party leadership told the investigators that, to its knowledge, none of the three Bulgarian MEPs (he, Petar Volgin and Rada Laykova) took part in the activities cited; Vazrazhdane explains that the document is not legally binding and reflects only an intent to develop dialogue between Bulgaria and Russia. According to Euractiv, Vazrazhdane itself announced that the agreement provides for an exchange of experience, ideas and political practices. BTA relays a declaration by Vazrazhdane leader Kostadin Kostadinov, according to whom the EP had voted the day before, for the first time, to open an investigation against a European party, among the reasons being two Facebook posts and the contract with United Russia; 400 MEPs voted for the procedure. — Novinite, 10 Jun 2026, BTA, 8 Jul 2026, Kyiv Post (from Euractiv)
