Corruption and scandals
- Defence lawyer in a repeatedly adjourned trial over the beating of a 168 Chasa editor. While an MP he defended Biser Mitrev, one of three defendants in the March 2020 beating of 168 Chasa editor Slavi Angelov. The trial opened on 23.12.2020, has had 87 hearings and has been adjourned many times, on 2 December 2024 because of the defence lawyer's high blood pressure. A 24 Chasa piece reprinted by Breaking.bg accuses him of hypocrisy, since he presents himself as a fighter for fast justice, and notes: "Although he often postpones cases, Georgiev has not a single absence from the plenary hall" (our translation). According to the outlet, he resigned after talking with Boyko Borisov. The paper and 168 Chasa belong to the victim's media group. - Allegations about a client from Taki's circle. Scandal Plus, an openly hostile outlet repeating BNEWS and BIRD, writes: "Georgiev is the lawyer of Rositsa Kirova's brother, Konstantin Varbanov, who is very close to Taki, and the two travelled together to the Seychelles" (our translation). Taki is Christoforos Amanatidis; Kirova is from GERB. The same sources allege that his law partner Raya Nazaryan received a 30,000 lev dividend from cases against BIRD journalists, who were the defendants in them, and that the two trained under the lawyer Menko Menkov. The article is about the May 2026 arrest of Nazaryan's brother. No charge or finding against Georgiev himself has been found, nor any response from him. — Scandal Plus, 24.05.2026
